How Does the PDF Watermark Tool Work?
The CompressFly PDF watermark tool adds your own text or logo to existing PDF pages. Label a report CONFIDENTIAL, mark a review copy DRAFT, or add a company logo before sharing a proposal. Watermarks can appear on every page or only the pages you choose. Pages are not converted to images, so existing selectable text stays selectable. Your PDFs and watermark images are processed locally in your browser, not uploaded to a server.
What "processed locally" means
- Your PDF files are not uploaded to a processing server
- Watermark text and logo images are handled on your device
- The watermarked PDFs and batch ZIP are created in your browser
One Watermark or a Repeating Pattern
A corner logo and a tiled SAMPLE label serve different purposes. Both text and image watermarks work in either layout.
A Single Watermark
Place one label or logo at the center, a corner, or an edge of each chosen page. A corner logo can identify the sender of a proposal; a centered DRAFT stamp makes a review copy’s status clear.
A Repeating Watermark
Repeat the same text or logo across each chosen page. A tiled SAMPLE watermark or recipient name appears in several areas instead of one fixed spot, while adjustable opacity helps keep the underlying text readable.
Why Use CompressFly to Watermark a PDF?
Easy to Use
Label a document without learning a desktop design application. The watermark tool keeps a small preparation task simple, whether you are sending a draft or a finished proposal.
Clearer Document Status
A visible DRAFT or SAMPLE label helps readers understand the copy they receive. It is a practical way to make the document's intended use clearer before sharing.
Your Own Branding
A company logo gives proposals and reports a recognizable sender. You can prepare a branded copy without recreating the document in an editing application.
Less Repeated Work
A set of documents can receive a consistent mark in one workspace. You do not have to open each file in a desktop editor and repeat the same preparation.
Free in Your Browser
Create watermarked copies without installing software or paying for a PDF subscription. No account is required to use the tool.
Private Documents and Logos
Your PDFs, labels, and logo images are handled on your device. There is no upload to a processing server while the marked copies are created.
PDF Watermark FAQs
How do I add a watermark to a PDF online?
1. Select one or more PDF files. 2. Enter your watermark text or choose a logo, then check its appearance and the pages it will cover. 3. Click “Add watermark” and download the watermarked PDF or ZIP.
Can I add my company logo to a PDF?
Yes. PNG and JPG/JPEG images are supported. For a logo without a rectangular background, use a transparent PNG. A JPEG’s background remains part of the watermark.
Can I watermark only selected pages?
Yes. Mark every page, or choose “Specific pages” and enter a selection such as 1-3, 5. Pages outside it do not receive the new watermark. In a batch, the same selection applies to each PDF, and the selected pages must exist in every file.
Can I add a diagonal, semi-transparent watermark?
Yes. Both text and image watermarks support adjustable opacity and rotation, so you can use a lighter mark at an angle rather than a solid, horizontal stamp.
Why is a watermark behind the page content invisible?
Opaque images and filled backgrounds can cover it. This is common with scanned PDFs, where a full-page image sits above the watermark. Keep the watermark over the content and lower its opacity if you want it to show on those pages.
Can I watermark multiple PDFs at once?
Yes. The same watermark and settings are applied to each PDF, and every file remains a separate document. Download the PDFs individually or together as a ZIP. To create one document first, use Merge PDF before adding the watermark.
Is this PDF watermark tool free and private?
Yes. It is free, with no registration or credit card required. Your PDFs and logo images are processed locally in your browser, not uploaded to a processing server.
